Richard Mupumha, Jr.

Richard's work is a depiction of the beauty and intricacy of nature, he loves to carve the African flower in its variety, showing its resilience and adaptability, distinct characteristics of the African people. He was born on 22nd October 1988 in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. He is the seventh child in a family of eight, the son of the late Solomon Frackson Mupumha.

He attended his primary education at Mavhudzi Primary School in Rusape, then he moved to Chitungwiza where he did his secondary education in 2003 up to 2006 at Seke 6 High School. During his school days at the weekends , he would earn a little pocket money by helping his brothers Onias Mupumha and Itayi Mupumha to work on their sculptures. He would assist in the sanding and polishing stages of finishing their sculptures. When he left school he began to pursue stone carving as a career, but firstly he joined his brother Onias as his assistant.

He has been sculpting full-time ever since and he has many customers from all around the world. He specializes in carving creations (especially Flowers), being inspired by nature and love. His beautiful art work featured in the Summer Exhibitions Hopley's Garden And Nursery, Much Hadham Hertfordshire SG10 6BU from 11 to 19 June 2011, 16 to 24 June 2012 , 22 to 30 June 2013 , 14 to 22 June 2014 , 13 to 21 June 2015.

He has participated in cultural exchange programs in 2017 and 2018 at Kabwata Cultural Village in Zambia . He also enjoys teaching aspiring artists to follow stone sculpting. He is looking forward to be given the opportunities to participate in workshops or schools anywhere in this world, playing the roles of tutor and/or facilitator.
